Lakewood is here to support you in deciding if and how to have a funeral service or remembrance ceremony for your loved one during this challenging time. We are honored that you are considering Lakewood.

Because we have a responsibility to protect our team and community during this pandemic, we have had to put some some limitations in place for funeral services. Learn more about our current policies below, including a few ideas for what to do if a service is not possible for you right now.

Please contact us for scheduling or if you have any questions: 612-822-2171 or info@lakewoodcemetery.org.

Graveside and Committal Services

A graveside, burial or committal service can be a meaningful ceremony that occurs at the time a loved one's remains are placed here at Lakewood.

Graveside and committal services can be done at Lakewood at this time. We ask that you follow these guidelines and policies:

  • 50 or fewer people in attendance at an outdoor service.

  • All attendees must wear masks and maintain physical distancing.

  • If you are interested in video livestreaming or have other needs related to planning the service, we're happy to provide referrals. Your funeral director may also be able to assist you.

  • We often honor special requests. Please let our team know in advance of the service so we can plan accordingly.

  • Other guidelines, restrictions or opportunities may apply depending on the type of service and its location within the cemetery.

Chapel Services

A ceremony to honor your loved one — either at the time of death or any time afterward — can be held in our beautiful historic chapel. We ask that you follow these guidelines and policies:

  • 50 or fewer people in attendance with social distancing between households. We can provide a seating chart to assist you with planning.

  • All attendees must wear masks while inside the building.

  • Service times are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

  • The chapel has some audio/visual capabilities; we strongly suggest you call our office to reserve time in the chapel prior to your service to test all technology.

  • If you are interested in video livestreaming or have other needs related to planning the service, we're happy to provide referrals. Your funeral director may also be able to assist you.

More Ways to Remember

You may make the choice to postpone holding a service or ceremony until it’s safe to gather more family and friends together. You are not alone in making that choice; we're seeing many families choose to do this for a variety of reasons.

So, what can you do right now? We encourage you to stay in touch with family and friends in whatever way possible. It's important to stay connected and seek support from each other. We also invite you to consider tying a ribbon to our Living Memory Tree or attend one of our upcoming workshops, discussions and other events to learn about other options for remembering a loved one.
