About this event

Join us on this peaceful Sunday walk as we learn more about the birds that call Lakewood home. Birding expert Amy Simso Dean and her co-leaders will take you on a stroll through the south end of Lakewood, near Roberts Bird Sanctuary, to learn more about the different species of birds that you can see while exploring our peaceful grounds.
This walk will be a slow pace on easy to moderate terrain, but we strongly encourage proper, close-toed footwear.
This experience is for all levels of birding. We will have a brief lesson at the start of the event discussing the basics of birding and talking about local birds, after this you are welcome to explore the area more independently or follow along with our guide.
What to Bring
Binoculars – our instructor will have extras available and they will be cleaned and sanitized for you, but you are welcome to provide your own.
(optional) pencil and a small notebook for taking notes
(optional) Sunscreen
(optional) Water or a light snack, but please remember to take all trash with you when you leave
Please note: We will not be near any restrooms and our buildings will not be open before this event.
Location
We will meet down by our onsite lake at Lakewood Cemetery.
(A map and these GPS coordinates will be sent out to event attendees before the event as well.)
Your Instructor
Amy Simso Dean has been birding for over 25 years. She is vice chair of Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis, founded MYBirdClub (an after school birdwatching club for kids) and co-founded Womxn’s Bird Club of MN. She works part time at The Raptor Center and is a citizen representative on the Minneapolis Tree Advisory Commission. As much as she loves birding, she really loves getting people excited about birds and birding.
