Free and open to the public

For the safety of the Lakewood community and families, we will be pre-recording the Memorial Day ceremony for everyone to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes. Please enjoy the video below and have a safe and peaceful Memorial Day weekend!

Lakewood's gates will still be open all weekend from 8am - 8pm, and on Memorial Day, for visiting and Lakewood team members will be onsite to answer your questions. ***

Join us on this special day of commemoration at Lakewood to honor and remember those we love and miss. This year will be a bit different as we all learn to navigate the challenges of physical distancing, however we do want to keep this tradition alive by offering a recording of our ceremony. You will also be able to visit loved ones onsite and participate in the Living Memory Tree activity.

As we reflect on these changing times, we wanted to share some of our favorite images from previous Memorial Day celebrations. We look forward to seeing you in 2021!

Memorial Day Activities

This year, we want to hear your stories about local Minnesota veterans and soldiers, whether from firsthand accounts, or told shared by loved ones. Since we are unable to gather and share these stories in person, we are collecting these stories, videos, or images to share on Memorial Weekend.

Memorialization is an important part of our mission here at Lakewood, so we want to keep this tradition alive by offering this no contact activity for guests and families. Ribbons and sanitized pens will be available at a nearby tent.

Add a ribbon to honor the memory of a loved one on our new Living Memory Tree, a collective display of remembrance and love. Learn about this unique memorial.

Self-Guided Walking Tour

This year we will be offering a self-guided walking tour centered around the theme of Public Service Memorials. This walk shares the history of some of Lakewood's self-guided memorials and collective remembrance sites. For more information, or to download/print a copy for your walk, please visit our Cemetery Stroll blog post.
