Picture a teeming arena filled with rabid fans screaming as their favorite star takes the stage. Now, imagine the exact opposite. The new Music in the Chapel series at Lakewood is a welcome antidote to the chaotic concert scene: a civilized place to experience intimate musical performances.

The monthly Sunday afternoon series, which began in 2018, has generated lots of positive press and enthusiastic reviews. “This is an excellent idea. Bravo on continuing to bring the community into your beautiful spaces,” raved one guest. “More contemporary music and conversations in this glorious space please! You are a hidden treasure,” exclaimed another.

Indeed, the Music in the Chapel series was created to showcase and share Lakewood’s unique charms—particularly its spectacular Byzantine Chapel—with a broader audience. “For those who already know Lakewood, it’s an opportunity to invite them back to enjoy this beautiful setting in a new way,” explained Lakewood's [former] president Ron Gjerde. “For those who don’t, it’s a great introduction—and just another way we are committed to remaining relevant, welcoming and accessible.”

To that end, Lakewood is presenting an eclectic range of performers who appeal to diverse musical tastes, with an emphasis on local artists.

Because the chapel only seats about 160 people, most shows sell out quickly. Concerts are announced first on the Lakewood Facebook page, so be sure you are liking and following us there, or sign up for our events/newsletter email list.

See what concerts are coming soon on our events page.
