Our stories are what connect us to our past—to the lives, loves and experiences that have shaped us. One of the most powerful ways to honor our history and acknowledge our influences is through storytelling.
This Memorial Day at Lakewood, you’re invited to join award-winning author and certified Great Story Coach, Jacquelyn Fletcher, to experience the power of story in a variety of meaningful ways.
How you can participate
Visit Lakewood on Memorial Day—a day devoted to remembrance—and choose one (or more) of the following interactive sessions:
Go on a Story Hunt! Hunt for stories to find the roots of your own heroism and courage through memories of loved ones.
Write a Dear You letter. Write a letter to a deceased family member or friend about a memory you have about them and how they impacted your life.
Give a Story to a Stranger. Write an uplifting letter to a stranger and give it away at the event.
Get Words of Encouragement. Take a Dear You letter from a collection written by kids, teens and adults if you’re in need of encouragement and support.

When and where
Story sessions will begin at 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Lakewood on Memorial Day. You’re welcome to join in at any time. Printed programs with maps will be available at the event to show you where to go.
Don’t miss our popular Memorial Day ceremony that morning
Jacquelyn Fletcher will also be a keynote speaker at our 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Ceremony, where she’ll share how stories are the foundation for everything we do and all of who we are.
