Thank you to everyone who attended this event!

Lakewood’s “Music in the Chapel” concerts showcase a variety of artists in one of our city’s most beloved architectural treasures — the Lakewood Memorial Chapel.

On Sunday, August 5, we're excited to welcome to Elizabeth "Lyz" Jaakola, performing compositions in many styles and genres including traditional Anishinaabe music, jazz, blues and opera. Lyz is a musician, educator and an enrolled member of the Fond du Lac band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. She teaches music and Native American studies at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. Listen to her music on Minnesota Public Radio.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. Self-guided tour brochures of Lakewood’s Memorial Chapel will be available.

About the Chapel

Dedicated in 1910, the Lakewood Memorial Chapel was modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul by prominent Minneapolis architect Harry Wild Jones. Its 10-million piece mosaic interior, created by New York designer Charles Lamb, features a 40-foot high dome ringed with stained glass windows and 12 mosaic angels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Chapel is one of the finest examples of Byzantine mosaic architecture in the country.
